field intercomparison
of ultrasonic anemometers

Between August 20 and 22 2001, 6 ultrasonic anemometers of the type METEK USA-1 are compared with a reference instrument (Campbell CSAT3 199) under field conditions by the University of Basel.

Raw data of all 7 sonics are collected with a computer (LabView). The internal sampling rate of the USA-1 is 40Hz and 60 Hz for the CSAT3. Data is internally averaged and stored on the computer with 20Hz. The matrix correction from the wind tunnel calibration will be compared to uncorrected values.

Most of the other ultrasonic anemometers from the University of Basel that will be operated during BUBBLE were already compared in a larger field campaign (Gill HS, CSI CSAT3, older METEK USA-1, Gill R2) in the frame of the MAP-Riviera project in 1999 (San Vittore, 1999, see pdf for details).
